2 John
Reminder to Obey in Love

Reminder to Obey in Love
(2 John)

The elder writes to the chosen lady, the bride of Christ, the church
who is loved by John and all who know the truth
which will live in us forever, through this life and the next,
in heaven where we’ll find eternal youth.
His wish for her members is mercy and grace, the unmerited favor of God
and the peace that no earthly man can give.
Through Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, our Lord and our Redeemer,
in truth and love forever we can live.
Some of her children are walking in truth, just as the Father commanded,
which fills this old apostle with great joy.
He reminds her of the Lord’s command that all should love each other,
and this is love: obedience employ.
You have heard from the beginning his command to walk in love,
which envelops all the law that we now serve.
It is more than just a feeling, but bowing to his will
for his grace and mercy, more than we deserve.
Deceivers who deny the Christ have gone into the world,
in attempts to drag you back into the mire.
Watch out, be careful, lest you lose the full reward you worked for,
the prize that always was your great desire.
Anyone who runs ahead of the word with his own interpretation
and does not continue in what Christ has taught,
does not have God to fend for him when troubles may assail,
has forsaken Christ by whom he first was bought.
Whoever still continues in the teachings of the Son
has both the Father and the Son inside.
Do not welcome such an antichrist to come into your home
nor by any means his evil work abide.
